Located just north of Des Moines, Johnston is consistently ranked as one of the top suburbs in both Iowa and the country. Johnston has a strong local economy and is home to Pioneer Hi-Bred Seeds, Iowa Public Television, Camp Dodge of the Iowa National Guard and the Des Moines Weather Forecast office of the National Weather Service. Johnston is served by the Johnston Community School District. The award-winning district is composed of five elementary schools, two middle schools and a high school. In 2010, the National Teacher of the Year was from the Johnston Community School District.
