Carlisle is a safe, family-friendly community located approximately 25 minutes southeast of Downtown Des Moines. It is located in a scenic river valley between the North and Middle rivers. Carlisle offers a laid-back atmosphere, a quaint downtown area and all the conveniences of living close to Des Moines and the larger suburbs.
Carlisle prides itself on the outdoor recreation provided by its unique landscape. The Carlisle Nature Trail is a 3.3-mile-long paved trail through the scenic river valley. The 11-mile Summerset Trail is perfect for walking or biking. Carlisle is also home to the Scotch Ridge Nature Park and an aquatic center.
Carlisle is served by the Carlisle Community School District. There are three schools within the city limits.
